I’m really excited about the new Hype Williams record (Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland – Black is Beautiful) which is released April 16 on Hyper Dub.
There is an interesting interview with them on the Guardian website, where Dean Blunt refers to Berlin as:
“the biggest coffee shop in the world; nothing happens, it's purgatory for people who failed in their own countries"
The interviewer describes their live show as:
both silly and deadly serious, and powerful because it was meaningless. I reassure Blunt that I'm not interested in deconstructing them. "People wonder why nothing is interesting, it's because they try to get a fucking answer to it, to everything," he replies. "There are things you can't articulate. There's that 'thing' in the world – music has it, every kind of art has it. And people talking about it can destroy it."
Their attitude and prolific output reminds me a lot of Aphex Twin back in the late 90’s. I have been enjoying new music by them that you can download for free.
