Processing the Middle
I have new work in the first and last of a four week program in Newcastle University's Long Gallery. The first exhibition opens tonight (Feb 1st 5-7pm), and I will be doing a performance during the preview.Week 1: Processing the Middle
Ruth Brenner – Toby Lloyd - Sean Maltby
The work in this exhibition is concerned with ongoing activity and the process the artist goes through when making art. Drawing, performance, sculpture, video and installation are used to explore this activity from all possible angles. The process is ingrained in the work and is often more important than the final result. Rules can be set and followed to determine the course of the activity; equally they can be abandoned to let the materials choose the course the work takes. At all times the process takes precedence and informs what comes next.
